Concert!

A couple of weeks ago we went to see Joe McDermott at his new CD release concert at a local elementary school. He is really hilarious if you haven't heard his stuff yet (maybe that's the case if you don't live in Austin) and his music is even tolerable in a car.

I think I might have captured the only millisecond they were sitting still...
Fun!

Easter 2010 pre-party

"Pre-party" reminds me of my college days, but I guess it's the best thing to call our outing to the Riley's house to dye eggs a few days before Candy Day Easter.

The kids made tie-dyed eggs (after all, this is Austin)...
But Tate mostly just wanted to eat the eggs.Miller tried his best too.

Once the eggs were finished, predicted silliness ensued...


And what do a bunch of Easter egg dye-ers need most? Bathtime!

Friends in bed

On the night before Gary got home last week, while I was busy getting Miller in his PJ's and giving him a bottle, Emmylou kept saying, "Mommy, come see what I did to your bed!"

Uh-oh.

Me: "Emmylou, am I going to like what you did to my bed?"

Emmylou: "You're gonna love it."

Then she gave each friend a bedtime story and read one to all of them.

Missing Daddy blues

It's rainy and kind of dreary today. Miller was looking out the window, watching the rain and then turned and pointed to the chair where Gary usually sits to eat dinner right behind him. "Dada?"
I explained to him that Daddy's finally coming home tomorrow. It's been a long week and we all miss him.

Travel back to us safely, Daddy!

Bluebonnets and squinty eyes

Since I don't have the time at the moment to throw together the BIG Easter post, I'll post a quick something from today (I know, right? What a novel idea for a blog).

Here's the best one of Emmylou and Miller together. Yikes. Looks like we might have to try these photos again.
Miller was mostly excited because there were lots of cars and trucks whizzing by.

We're going on an egg hunt...

We were out at Grammie's lakehouse in Horseshoe Bay for Easter weekend, so on Saturday we drove into Kingsland for an Easter egg hunt we'd heard about.

Daddy helped Emmylou decorate her egg for the egg decorating contest (let me quell your suspense: everyone won-- imagine that).
Miller was ready for the hunt!
But not before getting some sugar from a cute blonde.
Emmylou hugged the slightly creepy Easter Bunny before the hunt began. Miller? Notsomuch.
What to do with 15 minutes before the hunt begins? Get your cameras out and throw the kids in the bluebonnets, of course!
Moments from the hunt... Is it bad that we were feeding Emmylou the strategy to bypass the first few yards and go for a less populated area to score the most eggs?

Gee, they're so well-hidden, I really hope the kids can find them.

A study in contrasts: Boy vs. girl birthday parties

Here are some more photos I've been meaning to post for, oh, around 2 months now...

If you've recently asked us to hang out on a weekend and we've had to decline, chances are it's because our schedule is chock-a-block with birthday parties. It's rare these days to go two weekends in a row without one and sometimes we have more than one in a day. So was the case one Saturday in late February when we celebrated our BFF Tripp's birthday in the morning and then Reagan's post-nap in the afternoon.

Check out Tripp's amazing party: it started at the fire station, where the kids got to climb all over a real fire engine, and ended next door at the County Line for an awesome BBQ lunch. Really, does it get any better?

Happy birthday, Tripp! That sure was fun!
And here are photos from Reagan's 3rd birthday Princess Party...

While every other little girl showed up in various manufactured Disney princess costumes, Emmylou was convinced that a lavender Cheongsam and bright red tutu (*fingers crossed she'll end up on Project Runway one day!*) were just what she needed for the occasion.
Happy birthday, sweet Reagan! That cake is just perfect for a princess!



Now... a more current post next! No waiting until June for Easter pics, I promise. Also, since I got my new camera (love it!!), no more having to rely on crappy iPhone pics for awhile. :)

Explore UT

Okay, I'm really playing catch-up here...

A while ago (like when Emmylou was still three) Gary and I took the kids to UT for their gigantic open house called Explore UT. We walked all over campus and took advantage of the fun activities they had there.

And then we ended the day at the KLRU studios (check out the Austin City Limits studio's new Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame plaque!). Miss Rosa, who we see hosting Sesame Street and the other PBS shows every morning was there and talked to the kids. I think Emmylou was a little starstruck.


Emmylou's favorite part of the day was (literally) running around the ACL stage and seeing Emmy, who was representing ACL that day. The next picture perfectly captures Emmylou as the blur she was while we were there.

"Emmylou, go take a picture with Aunt Emmy!" Response: *blur*
"We'll give you candy if you stand still for one second."

Ah, a bit more cooperation.
How many other Emmylou's have graced that stage, I wonder...
